I think people should make a concerted
effort to make friends. I don’t want to be your friend just because we
know the same people. I don’t want to be your friend by proxy. I don’t
want to be your friend because it’s convenient. Or just because we work
together. Or because neither of us like to eat lunch alone.
I want to be your friend because we laugh at the same things. Because we can agree to disagree. Because I can say that outfit makes you look fat and you can swat me on the head without us bursting into a fight. Because I know that I can call you at 3am if I can’t sleep. Because you can ring me in the middle of the work day to tell me you’re hungover and still in bed.
I want to be your friend because I choose to be your friend. Not because of circumstance or there wasn’t anyone else. I want to be your friend just because.
